I’m starting with LOVE is this series, plain and simple. It is listed as the first of the Fruits of the Spirit (galatians 5:22-23) and is elsewhere noted as “the greatest of these…” I believe that love is the single most important thing that we can all include in our every day. I mean, without it…what is the point of life? I could throw in countless cliches and catchy phrases about it, but I won’t. Except this one: For God so LOVED the world, that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish-but have an everlasting LIFE. (john 3:16) Love IS the meaning of life.
We love because He first loved us. We are billions and billions of different souls, wandering around on this spinning blue and green marble together, and the greatest single thing that we can do for each other is to love. It’s as simple and as mind-boggling as that. I don’t know about you but I’ve loved a lot in my 34 years. I’ve loved and I’ve most definitely lost. Family, friends, boys, pets. You name it, I’ve proclaimed my love for it. Honestly though, I haven’t always LIKED the people that I’ve loved. I’ve gone days, weeks, months, sometimes even years, without seeing or speaking to someone that I truly held deep in my heart, because of choices made that I didn’t agree with. That’s okay.
What’s not okay? Hate.
Please, do not let this world make you so bitter or so broken that you grow to hate. “Oh, but this person is evil, there’s no way in hell that I’m going to show them any love.” I hear you, but hear me: love them anyway. Love them through their misery just as Jesus, the only Son of God, has loved you. I’m not saying put on a happy face and pretend that what they have done, whatever makes them “evil” hasn’t happened…no, I’m saying add them to your prayers. Write their name on your heart and let Jesus take it from there.
Love, because He first loved us.
